Job Description:
The Estimator serves as a point of contact on assigned estimating and customer quote activity for the business unit. Serves as the primary customer focal point for all assigned RFP/RFQ requests. Responsibilities include analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for sheet metal and machined parts and components. Creates and maintains manufacturing cost estimates and proposals utilizing Routings and Bills of Materials for production of Aerospace components.
JOB FUNCTION:
Receive, download and submit Request for Quotations (RFQ) from customer portals and review all accompanying documents and engineering data packages Evaluate all engineering data and information to assess product ability Review parts lists, drawings, and other data to determine manufacturing requirements including outside processing (heat treat, etc.) material, labor, and tooling and prepares itemized lists of those requirements Prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, and determining cost effectiveness of make/buy analyses Makes recommendations to improve the manufacturing process, and when appropriate supports LEAN Manufacturing activities Analyze variances between estimated cost and actual cost to effectively evaluate the adequacy and accuracy of the utilized estimating parameters. Develop cost estimating tools utilizing Excel.
Provide cost breakdowns and complete bid forms when requested by customers or business leadership
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as drawings, blueprints, production schedules, contractual agreements, Requests for Quotation or Requests for Proposal, as well as various customer documents relating to the same Ability to write reports and business correspondence, both internal and external Ability to effectively communicate with individuals or groups of customers or employees Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables Proficiency in the use of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree in Manufacturing or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3-5 years estimating experience in the aerospace/manufacturing industry Previous sheet metal forming and machining experience with 5 axis machines a plus Associates Degree or equivalent required or relevant experience (Engineering and applicable certifications preferred.
